Hello Colleagues!

We are pleased to announce our plans to hold the “Second Annual Fall Education Day” for our MCDVS members this year!  We have reviewed the feedback from last fall’s education day, as well as from the spring conference, to come up with an agenda we think everyone will find beneficial.

Our topics focus on the use of technology to communicate with volunteers and the communities that we serve.  We have a guest speaker who will define social media ... how to use, how NOT to use it, and also demonstrate it while having open, interactive discussions with our group.  This will include Facebook (groups, fan pages, other), Twitter, and other on-line ways of dealing within our own organization, with our volunteers, with our vendors, and with the public.

We plan to have demonstrations and interactions with members – so if you would like to be one of the examples used (brought up live on the screen) – we welcome that opportunity to network and learn from each other.

In addition to social networking technologies, we also had requests to discuss how we orient and train using technology (internet private or public site), updates, evaluations and surveys.  So we are looking for people to demonstrate their toolsets in our group.  With the diverse, mobile, and fast-paced environment we are working in today, it is not always logical or even possible to bring volunteers in for every inservice, training, evaluation or survey opportunity.  How we push out that information and receive quality feedback and proof of these things, is something that appears to be of interest to many in our membership.  We are all trying to do more with less, and technology on a wide variety of levels will help us if we understand it and embrace it.

We think this can be a very dynamic and energetic day - and you won't find any two places doing exactly the same thing with these media types.  Some organizations have completely blocked their staff from even using these types of services/tools - so if there is true benefit in opening up some of those windows - you may be the ticket to successful use of technology that enhances communication and makes a difference!

We will also be having a general membership meeting during lunch (which will be provided at this free to members), an update from David Finkbiener from HFA on Healthcare Reform, and we will get an update on AHVRP from members who attend the national conference September 30 through October 3 in St. Louis.

I will be sending out the agenda and further instructions on how to sign up!  I will also be posting the information and updates through Google Groups!  So if you haven’t tapped into that technological resource, be sure to sign up and sign in today!

Sincerely Yours,
Jacquie Karr-Zlotnicki, Education Chair
